Indianapolis (26 NOV '10) - An exciting first round of qualifications at the fascinating 2.5 mile oval of Indianapolis just found its end. During the four hour session 37 of 45 signed up drivers made at least one attempt to qualify. John Paquin posted a new record with a four lap average speed of 228.660 mph or 39.360 seconds. Beside that the speedway already saw its first dramas when Tim Doyle struggled to improve his time and spun out on track which bumped him out of the top 33.

Beside Doyle and Daniel Olszewski all drivers from the top group (A), which consists of the regular iamINDY.de Series drivers , posted at least one time which locked them already in for the 500 the after next Sunday. In the second group (B), which is open for all drivers regardless their past participation, the qualification is much tougher and closer. Many drivers were able to post four lap average times from 39.5 to 39.8 which only show how great the competition is. This also promises a very dramatic and interesting second qualification day. At the moment it is Juan Rodriguez who sits on the bubble in position 33 with an average of 40.212 seconds, currently just 0.038 seconds ahead of Chuck Johnson. The interesting story behind those two drivers is quite funny: Juan Rodriguez already had a time of 39.934 seconds but then he decided to withdraw his time in order to make a second (faster) attempt…

The Bump-Day qualification round two will be a shorter session which is just two hours long. After the finish of the second and last qualification there will be a 100 laps practice race on Sunday.
